JerseyLocated close to the coast of France and measuring only 14kms long by 8kms wide, Jersey is the largest member of the Channel Islands. The island offers a wonderful mix of quaint and tranquil countryside, beautiful quiet beaches and modern cosmopolitan tourism. The island’s biggest attraction is undoubtedly its natural beauty. There is a rugged coastline and long sandy beaches around every corner. There is also a long and fascinating history that is still visible today, with WWII bunkers and Neolithic burial grounds sitting alongside medieval castles. Jersey truly offers something for everyone. The island’s capital, St Helier, is the main hub of activity on the island. It not only offers a wide variety of attractions, but is also famous for its status as a tax-free shopping destination. Winner of the ‘most outstanding tourist attraction to open in the British Isles’ in 1992, the Jersey Museum offers an invaluable insight into the history and culture of the island. The most rewarding way to explore the island is by car. This option gives you the freedom to discover the many deserted beaches and secluded bays at your own pace. Having your own transport also makes it easier to visit the historical sites scattered around the island, such as the 500-year-old Elizabeth Castle or the German Underground Hospital built during World War II. Jersey Airport is located just a few kilometres from St Helier and offers flights to many UK and European cities. The take off from Jersey Airport is considered to be one of the most dramatic in the UK, with the end of the runway only a few hundred metres from the cliff tops of St Ouen’s Beach. The alternatives to flying are to catch a car ferry or a catamaran service from the south coast of England. |
