Glasgow Prestwick International Airport (PIK)Despite its small size, Glasgow Prestwick International Airport services over a million passengers each year. The airport provides direct flights to many destinations across the UK and Europe.
Its single terminal handles all of the flights, with the check-in area located at the front of the building and domestic arrivals and all departures located at the back of the terminal.
A good selection of facilities are available, including ATMs, a Travelex bureau de change, baby care rooms and a special area for children to play. The terminal also houses a number of shops and eateries, including WHSmith, The Alloway Bar and the Cloud 9 Cafe Bar. Numerous other food and drink outlets can be found in the Food Village food court. All restaurants and shops are open from 06:00 until the last flight. The Departures Lounge also contains duty-free shopping, offering Scottish gifts and single malt whiskey.
Business travellers can make use of the terminal’s business lounge. It offers internet, telephone and photocopy services. The airport is completely accessible to disabled travellers. Lifts, specially fitted toilets, free wheelchair use and special assistance with pre-boarding flights are readily available. The airport’s information desk is located on the ground floor outside the Domestic Arrival area.
Getting to and from the airport
From Glasgow city centre, Glasgow Prestwick Airport is easily reached by car via the M77 motorway in about 30 minutes. From Glasgow, take the M77 south until it becomes the A77. Signposts will direct you east towards the airport off of the A77 before reaching the town of Ayr.
The airport has its own train station located minutes away via an enclosed Skywalk. The 40- minute ride to Glasgow leaves every half hour for the city’s central station (every hour on Sundays). Frequent trains also depart to Paisley every half hour. Stagecoach Western Express Service X77 provides daily direct bus service between the airport and Glasgow Buchanan Street Station leaving every 30 minutes.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport has two short-stay car parks located within a short walk of the terminal, while its two long-stay car parks are serviced by a free shuttle bus. It is recommended that you book your long-stay parking in advance by calling (+44) 0870 0134503. |
