London Gatwick International Airport South Terminal (LGW)

Home > Carhire > United Kingdom > UK > Gatwick Airport South

Despite being the second busiest airport in Britain, London Gatwick International feels a lot more relaxed than its larger neighbour, Heathrow. Its two large terminals service 30 million passengers a year to over 200 UK, European, transatlantic and African destinations.

The airport’s two terminals, the North and South terminals, are connected by a monorail. The South Terminal handles flights from 70 different airlines. Its Arrivals area is on the ground floor, while the Departures Lounge is on the first floor.

The South Terminal provides a wide range of amenities, including ATMs, exchange bureaus, high street retail shops and duty-free outlets in the Departures Lounge. A baby changing room and children’s play area, as well as the airport information desk can also be found in the terminal. Good selections of eatery choices, ranging from fast food to full service restaurants, are available. The South Terminal also houses a post office and an adjacent medical centre in Ashdown House which provides immunisations.

Business class travellers will appreciate the conference and business centre on the 7th floor of the terminal. Aviance and Servisair lounges are also available to offer relaxation and basic business facilities for a small fee. The airport is fully accessible to disabled travellers, including lifts, low toilets and special transport assistance around the terminals.

Getting to and from the airport
Gatwick Airport is 45kms south of London and easily accessible via junction 9 off the M23 motorway. The M25 ring road is 10 minutes away, conveniently connecting drivers to other cities around Britain.

Many public transportation options run out of the South Terminal and there are car hire facilities as well. The Gatwick Express train runs from the terminal to Victoria Station in central London every 15 minutes between 06:00 and 22:00. Flightline buses service London Victoria and National Express buses go to destinations throughout the country, both departing from the South Terminal’s ground floor.

The South Terminal has short-term car parking for up to 5 hours with direct covered access to the terminal. Convenient Fast Track parking is also available in the short-stay car park. Long-term parking is serviced by a free shuttle bus, while those looking for luxury can use the Gatwick airport valet service.
