Malaga

Located in southern Spain, Malaga offers breathtaking beaches, a sunny climate and beautiful landscapes. These factors have helped it to remain one of the leading holiday destinations in Europe for many years.

The city sits on a wealth of artistic and architectural history. Being the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, Malaga is home to an archive of Picasso’s drawings as well as information concerning his life and achievements. These can be found in the museum, the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation, which is in fact the house where he was born.

The city’s cathedral sits on the former site of a destroyed mosque and the cathedral’s Museum displays both religious and secular art forms, which are fascinating and definitely worth a visit.

La Alcazaba is an 11^th century Moorish fortress which was built over the remains of a previous Roman fortress. This landmark’s location on a scenic hilltop offers beautiful views of the city and coast.

Hiring a car enables you to explore Malaga’s environs in comfort. The nearby village of Nerja is easily accessible by car and is known for its ancient caves. The caves are protected and have been well preserved, with many parts still closed to the public, including areas with prehistoric paintings of animals and human figures. Heading west along the coastline, you will find the town of Marbella. Fine dining and designer shopping are both available here.

In addition to history and natural landmarks, Malaga offers a wide range of restaurants, bodegas and bars.

The international airport in Malaga caters for passengers flying to numerous European destinations. The airport is easily reached from the city, whether by car, bus, or train. Travelling in Malaga by bus, however, does present some problems as the bus stations are often plagued by long lines and a relatively short window of opportunity during which passengers can purchase tickets.
