Dublin

Home > Carhire > Europe > Ireland > Dublin

Ireland’s lively capital city offers an infinite range of sights, activities, entertainment and attractions. Established over 1000 years ago, Dublin boasts beautiful preserved ancient buildings and historic sites, while its legendary pub culture and countless retail venues offer more frivolous diversions.

Dublin Castle is perhaps the most impressive of Dublin’s architectural wonders, and is inextricably linked to the city’s ancient history. Another must-see attraction is Christchurch Cathedral, a magnificent medieval structure conveniently located in the centre of the city. Just next door is the fascinating Dublinia Exhibition, while Trinity College, housing the renowned Book of Kells, is also within a 10-minute walk.

History enthusiasts should make their way across the river to the O’Connell Street Post Office. It is an imposing colonial building which was the site of a nationalist uprising led by Daniel O’Connell in 1916. Dublin is also home to a fabulous selection of museums, including the Dublin Writers Museum, the Rock and Stroll Museum, the Dublin Literacy Tour, the National Museum and the Joyce Museum.

Dublin is a hotpot of eating and drinking culture. There are trendy little bars, top quality restaurants and a host of musical events and performances. The Temple Bar district is the most obvious choice for a night out, offering cobbled lanes, a riverside position and a sparkling atmosphere. For retail therapy, head to the pedestrian area of Grafton, where the streets are lined with designer stores and chic boutiques.

Just outside Dublin, easily accessible by car, the Guinness Brewery offers visitors a glimpse into the brewing process of Ireland’s favourite beer, while the seafront towns of Howth and Bray are under an hour’s drive from Dublin central and provide the perfect opportunity for a scenic getaway should you tire of city.

Dublin is well connected to the rest of the country by bus network and the international airport offers plentiful flights to Europe, the UK and the USA.
