Cape TownCape Town is an area that combines both incredible natural beauty and a very interesting culture and history. The city’s blend of unique architectural styles, the eclectic mix of culture and the stunning beaches and mountains make the city one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The city centre of Cape Town is a mix of modern high-rise office blocks, striking Edwardian and Victorian buildings and unique Cape Dutch architecture. Long streets feature some charming buildings which reflect the remains of the old town. You will also find the District Six and Bo Kaap museums located in the city; both hold excellent sources of information on Cape Town’s history. Good Hope Castle Fort is home to the oldest surviving examples of early Dutch and British occupation. The parliament buildings and the President’s residence (Tuin Huis) are also well worth a visit, whilst the Islamic suburb of Bo Kaap adds yet more character to the city. There are regular 10-minute shuttles that run to the recently restored Victoria and Albert Waterfront. This area is extremely popular with shoppers and also features an aquarium, sailing charters and many distinctive bars and restaurants. The Waterfront is a launching point for trips to Robben Island, the infamous home of Nelson Mandela during his long incarceration. Slightly further out from the city you will find some stunning beaches, mountains and vineyards. Table Mountain is perhaps Cape Town’s most famed feature. This imposing natural landmark can be reached by cable car or by utilizing one of the many marked footpaths. One of the most spectacular drives in the region begins behind the mountain in Camps bay and Clifton beach. From here, you will wind your way to the towns of Llandudno and Hout bay and onwards towards the Cape Point reserve. At the end of this journey lie the amazing Muizenberg beaches. A short distance from Cape Town is the stunning wine growing area of Stellenbosch. This area contains some beautiful vineyards where wine can be sampled and bought.
