LeedsSituated between London and Edinburgh, Leeds is the second largest metropolitan district in the UK. The Leeds area of Yorkshire offers some of the most stunning scenery in the region as two thirds of the city falls into green belt areas. In recent years, Leeds has undergone a major re-development program which has transformed the once neglected waterfront area into a major entertainment complex. The Royal Armouries collection can be found on Armouries way. This internationally acclaimed museum is home to one of the world’s best collections of weaponry. As well as the collection itself, the museum provides battle scene recreations and interactive exhibits, ensuring there is something here for everyone. Next to the Victorian Town Hall you will find the Leeds City Art Gallery. The gallery houses one of Britain’s best collections of Victorian and modern art. Located next door to the gallery is the Henry Moore Institute, which displays the works of the famous sculptor as well playing host to many travelling exhibitions. There are many interesting attractions to be found within a short drive of the city. Branham Park was built in 1698 and here you will find a fine collection of antique furniture and paintings. The house is set in 66 acres of beautiful grounds. Harewood is another of England’s great houses that offers many attractions including boat trips on the lake, an adventure playground and landscaped gardens.Leeds International Airport is just a 20-minute, well-signposted drive from the city. The airport offers domestic flights to destinations throughout the UK, as well as international flights to many of Europe’s major cities. |
