London Heathrow Airport (LHR)

Home > Carhire > United Kingdom > UK > Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport is officially known as the world’s busiest international airport. Its four terminals (with a fifth under construction) handle 60 million passengers a year, travelling to destinations in over 90 countries throughout the world.

Over 90 different airlines operate from Heathrow Airport’s four terminals. Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights and Terminal 2 mainly deals with flights to European destinations. Terminals 3 and 4 are responsible for the majority of long haul flights from the airport, with Terminal 4 being the home of the national carrier, British Airways.

The vast area of Heathrow is well known for its excellent facilities. All terminals are well equipped with banking, ATM machines and postal services. Services such as lost property and left luggage are very well organised and all four terminals offer a wide selection of high street shopping, as well as a wide choice of eateries to suit all tastes.

Business facilities are widely available at all of the airport’s terminals, with Airline Lounges offering telephone and fax services, as well as internet access and secretarial facilities. Disabled passengers are well catered for at Heathrow Airport, with accessible toilets, fitted ramps and lifts with wheelchair access spread throughout the airport.

Getting to and from the airport

Heathrow Airport is situated to the west of London and is easily accessible by car; all major roads in the area are well sign posted. From central London, head to the M4 and exit at junction 3 for Terminal 4 and junction 4 for Terminals 1, 2 and 3. The airport can also be reached from junction 14 off the M25.

Rail services offer the quickest route to Heathrow Airport from central London; the Heathrow Express runs from Paddington station every 15 minutes, while the Piccadilly line of the underground also stops at all terminals.

The Railair bus service runs every hour to major mainline rail stations in the area, while the A2 Airbus runs from all terminals into central London every 15 minutes. Alternatively, black cabs can be caught outside all the terminal buildings.

Heathrow Airport has more than 30,000 car parking spaces, with short stay, long stay, business and valet parking all available. There are disabled designated parking spaces provided in all the airport’s car parks.
